Anglo Saxon Village

Our history topic for this term in Class 2 has been Anglo Saxons. We discussed why people wanted to start a new life in England, how they arrived and the kind of lives they lead. It has brought up lots of talking points such as how the women would have churned butter, weaved their own clothes and even dyed the materials to make the clothes. We talked about how the men would farm the land and produce food for their families and the similarities in today’s society.

The children were given the task of creating our own mini Anglo Saxon settlement using materials we could find in the classroom. Not a detail was missed from tiny little farm animals to the straw roofs and fires.

We also made traditional oat biscuits with Mrs Smith that would have been baked around the time and then wrote up our fabulous recipes for our English work.
