Dear Parents & Carers

We have arranged for the Class 2 children to go on a trip to the Danelaw Centre for Living History in York on Tuesday 24th March.  The children will be taking part in a Saxon themed day.  This will complement their topic learning this term about ‘Britain: Then and Now’. The Danelaw Centre hosts hands-on activity days for school groups led by members of the Living History Team. Arriving as new settlers, the children will be given simple period costumes and taken to their new homes on the dark-age settlement where they experience first-hand the daily life of a Saxon family.  There are a number of houses, workshops and fields, and the village offers an atmospheric learning environment within which children of all abilities can immerse themselves.  In the village they learn new skills and all about the hard work and dangers that were part of daily life.  Various visitors arrive during the day to create role play scenarios.  Please visit the website to find out more http://www.murtonpark.co.uk/

The total voluntary cost for this trip is £15.00, which is the cost of a child entrance fee. We have requested a donation from CHAPS to cover the cost of the coach. and has been set up as a payment item on ParentPay today.  No child will be excluded from the visit for non-payment but the school needs to receive sufficient voluntary contributions to enable the trip to go ahead.

The bus will be leaving school at approximately 9.00am, so the children will need to be in school by 8.55am for registration. Mrs Morton, Miss Lamb, Mrs Winder, Mrs Brankley and Miss Langhorn will be accompanying the children on the visit. Children should wear their school uniform, including sensible shoes and a coat.  The children in Year 2 and pupils who are in receipt of free school meals will be provided with a school packed lunch, which they will select from a range of sandwich options; they will also need to bring a bottle of water with them (named, if possible) as drinks are not provided.  The children in Year 3 and 4 may order a packed lunch with the school office by Friday 28th February or bring their own packed lunch in a named, disposable bag. The day concludes at 3.00pm, so the children will be back in school by 3.45pm.  If there are any delays to report, we will send a text to update you.  Out of School Club will be available at a special cost of £2 per child for any sibling who attends, to save families picking up twice.  Please let Out of School Club leader and Mr Marshall know if you wish to book a place.

Yours sincerely

Mrs R Lindley
