Dear Parents & Carers,
France Residential Visit for Year 5 & 6

Following the Year 5/6 residential to France which the Chapel Haddlesey pupils attended in 2017, we have had enough interest from Chapel Haddlesey and Barlow parents to consider going again in 2020. Whilst we appreciate that the Year 5/6 pupils at Burton Salmon have just returned from the residential visit to East Barnby, we would like to extend the invitation to them and give them the opportunity to come along if they wish.

We have negotiated with the travel company and I am pleased to be able to offer the opportunity for your child to take part in the following trip to France:

PGL centre:

Chateau du Tertre in Normandy

Departing:

Monday 16th March 2020

Returning:

Friday 20th March 2020

Mode of travel:

Private coach and Eurotunnel transfer

The cost per child is a very competitive £349 which includes:

  • Return travel from school on a private executive coach with on board toilet & washroom, air conditioning/climate control , dvd/tv player
  • A full daily programme of activities, e.g. visiting a boulangerie, French market, Mont Saint-Michel, Bayeux Tapestry and the Mémorial de Caen
  • A full programme of evening entertainment, e.g. archery, trapeze, climbing, raft building and the zip wire
  • Full board and accommodation
  • Full comprehensive travel insurance (details available on request)

The only additional cost will be pocket money, passport and a packed lunch for the journey down.

The trip will be led by Mrs MacDonald in conjunction with PGL Travel Ltd., a first-class operator with a solid reputation for organising school trips - a reputation built up from over 50 years’ experience in the school travel business. All PGL centres are regularly assessed by the relevant regulatory bodies within the industry and are operated to the highest standards. They are backed by ABTA membership and are ATOL licensed ensuring that all payments made are fully insured.

There are significant benefits to be had from an overseas residential visit. It affords the opportunity for the pupils to succeed in a new challenge, enjoying the benefits of increased self-confidence and the forming of new relationships both within their peer group and the wider range of people they will meet whilst on the trip. It offers a different cultural experience and the opportunity to apply the French language skills that they are learning in school within a real context, extending their experience of life beyond the school gate.

If you would like your child to take part in the trip, please detach, complete and return the form below. If there are enough interested families, further payments will be required as staggered payments over the next 5 months. Unfortunately, if we do not have enough interest, the residential will not be able to go ahead.

Should you want to find out a bit more about the visit, please have a look at the PGL website here - https://www.pgl.co.uk/en-gb/school-trips/primary-schools/centres/chateau-du-tertre

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

Suzanne MacDonald
Executive Headteacher
