Sean Gaffney

On Tuesday 20th June, we were very excited to welcome top athlete Sean Gaffney to our school.

Sean was involved in a freak accident in 1999 while preparing for the Royal Tournament which involved him having to undergo 25 surgeries and resulted in a leg amputation. Since then, Sean has also battled cancer twice but through grit and resilience has competed in both the Invictus Games and Commonwealth Games.

Sean led a sponsored fitness circuit with each class in turn in the Village Hall and then delivered a really engaging and inspirational assembly to the whole school, along with a question-and-answer session. The aim of the whole event was to inspire the pupils to be more physically active and to encourage them to discover and pursue their passions in life. The athlete event was fantastic for connecting the pupils to an extraordinary athlete role model and gave us the opportunity to raise money to improve physical activity in the school, whilst also supporting both athletes and para-athletes, so that they can continue to inspire the next generation. A huge thank you to those children (and families) that have returned their sponsorship forms and monies. So far at Chapel Haddlesey, we have raised a grand total of £1300.00. That’s amazing!
